Norma & Evert Person Journalism Scholarship
Established November 2020
Purpose: Foster the next generation of journalists and media professionals in California’s North Bay region by offering scholarships and guidance that help cultivate their academic and professional excellence in the field.
Scholarships: The Press Democrat Journalism Trust is excited to provide the Norma & Evert Person Journalism scholarship, which provides support for aspiring journalism students. Two scholarships of up to $2,500 each will be awarded annually and are renewable for four years based on continued eligibility. Importantly, the scholarship also pairs recipients with a professional mentor to guide them through the process of becoming a journalist and will assist the recipient in securing a paid summer internship with The Press Democrat or a partnering publication. This annual spring scholarship runs concurrently with The David & Barbara Cohen Scholarship, giving students the opportunity to receive one or both awards. Students need to submit only a single application form (linked below).
The Press Democrat Journalism Trust and the review panel will award these scholarships following the scholarship’s purpose, student eligibility, and recommendations of the scholarship committee.
